MCP Actions Blog

This blog is an excellent place to find photography tips and tutorials. They also have some pretty amazing actions for sale. :) I visit the site frequently however, one of my favorite recent tutorials was: Super Moon Photography: How to Shoot the Moon.

http://www.mcpactions.com/blog/2011/03/21/super-moon-photography-how-to-shoot-the-moon/

This post gave some excellent tips for taking photos of the moon. I used these tips on the night of the super moon, and got better than normal results. I certain I would've had fantastic results, if I'd only had the right lens.

If you haven't got a chance, check out the blog for more tips and tutorials! :)

I Heart Faces Challenge - Best face in Febuary

This photo is by far not technically perfect, however, it remains one of my favorite pictures of all-time. I shot this picture of my niece at a baby shower. Can you tell she does not like having her picture made. :)

Chloe photoshoot

Last weekend, I did my first ever photo shoot with one of my favorite subjects...my niece Chloe! Once upon a time she was a bit camera shy, but not during this shoot! She really enjoyed hamming it up and posing. She was the perfect model. Of course I might be a little biased...:)

Lions and cougars and bears....Oh My!

I spent this morning at the North Carolina zoo with my sister, niece and husband. It must have been almost 20 years since I'd been there, but visiting it again was like seeing it again through a child's eyes. The diversity and beauty of plants and animals across the world is simply amazing! Seeing some of God's creations truly reminded me of how wonderful and powerful He is. It was a little sad, seeing all these beautiful creatures trapped within the confines of some small plot of land that was merely a re-creation of their orginal habitat, but I consoled myself with thinking of how easy life must be for these animals, not having to hunt their prey, or worse yet become prey to an even bigger predator.

During our trip, I got a bit distracted and somehow ended up shooting the second half of the trip on a low apperture setting, thus some of the pictures aren't as sharp as I'd like. However, in some of the photos it definitely made for an interested composition. Below are a few of my favorites from the trip.

Train, Train...

There is something about train tracks I love... Maybe it's the parallel lines that traverse thousands of miles across the country and the possibility they hold for those who ride those rails. Or maybe it's the simplicity of the iron and wood, that somehow work together to keep a massive train from derailing. Or just maybe it's the many, many, metaphors one can conjure up about trains and life.

I've never actually been on a train. Not unless you count Tweetsie Railroad. I've always dreamed of hopping in a boxcar and hitching a ride across the country, like so many characters in books and movies. Of course that has yet to happen, and probably never will, but I like to pretend its still a possibility. That maybe, one day when the monotony of everyday life has worn me down, I'll just take a leap of faith, hop on a train, and hang on for the ride .
